Overview
The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) is Canada’s pathway for eligible sponsors to bring parents/grandparents to Canada as permanent residents. PGP is managed through invitations and limited intake, so eligibility and timing depend on IRCC’s intake approach.
Current intake status and what it means
- IRCC’s 2025 PGP intake is closed: invitations were sent starting July 28, 2025 to people who submitted an interest to sponsor form in 2020, with a target of 10,000 complete applications; the last day to apply was October 9, 2025.
- If you were not invited, IRCC notes the Super Visa as the main alternative for extended family visits.
Who this pathway is for
PGP may suit you if:
- You received an invitation to apply (based on IRCC’s intake selection)
- You can meet sponsor eligibility and provide the required financial and family evidence (program-specific)
Typical supporting documents (examples)
- Sponsor status documents (citizenship/PR)
- Proof of relationship (birth/family records)
- Financial evidence requested by the program (case-dependent)
- Parents/grandparents identity documents and civil documents
- Complete forms and any IRCC-requested documents
How we support you
- Confirm whether you can apply (invitation status and eligibility)
- Build a clean, complete sponsor + applicant document pack
- Review financial and relationship evidence for clarity and consistency
- Help you prepare an alternative plan (such as Super Visa) if PGP isn’t available
